No Moroccan citizen has been killed in the mass shooting that took place, Friday, at two mosques in New Zealand, said Morocco's Honorary Consul Alan Ross Meurant. Speaking, Friday, to Yabiladi, the diplomat based in New Zealand said that «at the moment there is no indication that any Moroccans are involved» in the shooting. «The Moroccan Ambassador in Australia and I are working with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs», which is in direct contact with the police, Meurant said. The Honorary Consul said that all foreign countries with Islamic populations in New Zealand are updated by the authorities through the same line. «The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware of the concern of other countries and have this open phone line», he stressed, adding that «every email and phone [he] did, [he] copied it to the Moroccan ambassador in Australia». For the record, at least 49 people were killed and 20 others injured during Friday prayers in two mosques in New Zealand after a gunman opened fire on worshipers. The shooting took place in Christchurch, a city located on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island. A video was shared on social media, posted by the gunman, showed him entering a mosque and opening fire on people inside. The assailant was described as a «blond man, wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest», said the same source. Commenting on the massive shooting, New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described it as «terrorism» act. She said that «four people in police custody, three men and one woman, held extremist views but had not been on any police watchlists».
