The German Foreign Ministry has «strongly» warned its citizens against traveling near Morocco's borders with Algeria, reports Austrian newspaper quoting the ministry's website. «Trips to regions near Morocco's borders with Algeria and generally beyond paved roads is not recommended», wrote the ministry on January the 31st. This decision doesn't cover popular tourist destinations, including Zagora, Erfoud and Merzouga. «Despite Morocco's heavy security measures, there is a risk of a terrorist attack», the German Foreign Ministry added, referring to the Imlil murders that took the lives of Scandinavian tourists. The Ministry warned its citizens against «hiking alone», advising them to hire local guides. German authorities also mentioned cannabis trafficking networks and protests. «The manifestations can develop spontaneously and unexpectedly. More recently, unauthorized demonstrations took place in different cities of Morocco with sometimes violent clashes».
