Morocco has set a historical record on the daily consumption of electricity, respectively on the 7th and 8th of August due to the intense heat wave that the kingdom witnesses these days, The National Office of Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE) said on Wednesday. «Morocco has set a historical record of the electric power demanded, both in the morning and the evening of Monday 7th of August 2017 as well as the daily consumption of electricity on Tuesday 8th of August 2017», ONEE said in a statement, explaining that these records are due, in particular to the massive use of air conditioning and agricultural pumping for irrigation needs. The same source said that around 1 pm (GMT + 1) on Monday the power demand reached 6.060 MW, an increase of 70 MW compared to the number recorded on the same day last year, adding that the when it comes to the evening of the same day and around 9:30 pm the number reached 130 MW, compared to that of 2016.
