The Moroccan poet Abdellatif Laabi received on the 29th of June the International award of the new golden century poetry during the inauguration of the Mexico's International Festival of Poetry, reports the Mexican news agency Notimex. Abdellatif Laabi, who writes poetry in French was born in 1942, he is one of the early instigators of the cultural revolution in the Maghreb, notably with the founding of the magazine «Souffles» in 1966. He was awarded the Goncourt Prize for poetry on December 1st in 2009 and the Grand Prix de la Francophonie of the French Academy in 2011. The International Poetry Festival in Mexico city will be attended by a number of local and international poets namely Czech Republic's Joseph Straka, Valeria Tentoni from Argentina, Dimitris Angelis from Greece, Najwan Darwish from Palestine and Carlos Raminez Vuelvas and Martin Tonalmeyotl from Mexico. The cultural event will be concluded on Sunday 2nd of July.
