Paraguay is exploring the possibility of exporting live cattle to markets such as Morocco, driven by demand from importers in the Middle East and North Africa. Media reports indicate that while the country has experience in this field, it is currently working on strategies to overcome logistical challenges and facilitate its first shipment. Ramiro Maluff, President of the Paraguayan Association of Meat Producers and Exporters, stated that the feasibility of exporting live cattle to markets like Morocco is under review. He emphasized that such exports are not «something new» for Paraguay. «We have begun conducting all necessary analyses and studies to understand the logistical implications of exporting live cattle from Paraguay, given that it is a landlocked country», Maluff said. He added that Paraguay has previously engaged in live cattle trade, particularly with neighboring countries such as Brazil and Argentina, which provides it with relevant experience. If an agreement is reached for exports to Morocco, the initial shipment is expected to include at least 2,500 head of cattle, each weighing between 200 and 300 kilograms. Maluff also noted that Paraguay has previously exported live cattle to Brazil, Argentina, and Ecuador via air transport. However, the distance to Morocco remains a significant challenge, and no final agreement has been reached yet.
