Regional Judicial Police in Marrakech, in coordination with the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, successfully arrested two French nationals, aged 28 and 38, on Sunday. They were wanted under international arrest warrants issued by the French authorities and pursuant to red notices circulated by Interpol. According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, investigations and inquiries led to the discovery of the suspects' hiding location, and a coordinated security operation in Marrakech resulted in their arrest. The arrest followed a collaborative operation between Morocco's National Security services and French law enforcement. Preliminary investigation details suggest that the suspects were involved in a premeditated murder within a criminal network targeting employees of a French prison on May 14, 2024. The operation also facilitated the escape of French-Algerian prisoner Mohamed Amara, who was arrested last weekend in Romania. The arrested individuals are also suspected of being involved in other criminal activities within an organized gang, including illegal possession of firearms, aggravated theft, fraud, attempted murder, and the destruction of public and private property. The suspects have been placed under provisional detention pending a judicial investigation. French authorities have been notified of the arrest to begin the necessary steps in the extradition process under international cooperation.
