The Danish police are advancing in their investigation of the fire that engulfed the headquarters of the Copenhagen-based Global Aktion association on Sunday, January 12. The primary suspect is a 19-year-old British national, described by Danish media as a «gang member». He is currently in custody, facing charges of «serious arson», according to the same sources. Global Aktion has not yet issued a statement regarding these recent developments. However, the NGO has reached out to the Minister of Justice, seeking updates on the police investigation. In their letter, the association expressed «astonishment that no member of the government has condemned the bomb attack on the premises of a legal political organization». The NGO emphasized in its correspondence that the message left by the perpetrators «was unequivocal and we consider it a clear attempt to put an end to our work in favor of human rights, freedom, and against the brutal occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco». So far, neither the media nor representatives from the Polisario Front have commented on the arrest of the young British suspect. Previously, the Polisario Front had accused Morocco of orchestrating the fire at Global Aktion's headquarters, a narrative echoed by some Algerian media without reservation. On Wednesday evening, supporters of the Polisario Front in Denmark organized a sit-in outside the NGO's offices, demanding «an end to the occupation of Western Sahara». Global Aktion has criticized the Danish government's endorsement of the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara, which was enacted last September.
