The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy announced another milestone for Morocco's tourism industry: a record-breaking 14.5 million tourists visited the country in 2023, a 34% increase from 2022! «Tourism in Morocco has made a new historical achievement», the Ministry proudly stated. «This remarkable progress represents a 34% increase compared to 2022 and a 12% growth over pre-pandemic levels in 2019». Interestingly, Moroccan residents living abroad contributed significantly to this surge, accounting for 51% of arrivals and enjoying a 27% increase compared to 2022. Meanwhile, foreign tourists also rose steadily, contributing 49% of total arrivals and experiencing a 41% jump compared to the previous year. Even amidst global challenges, December 2023 saw an unprecedented peak, with 1.3 million tourists arriving, equally divided between Moroccans abroad and international visitors. This confirms Morocco's enduring appeal as a top tourist destination, catering to both local and international audiences. The Ministry further highlighted that this record-breaking year significantly surpassed the initial target of 13.5 million tourists set out in the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap. Exceeding expectations by over a million visitors is a testament to Morocco's successful post-pandemic recovery and its continuous development as a prime tourist destination.
