The port of Algeciras is preparing for Operation Marhaba. «The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APABA) has launched a tender to provide various services and supplies in case the international transit of travelers from the countries of northern Europe to Morocco takes place between the months of June and September», Europa Sur reported yesterday. «The APBA is keeping the tender open to award the vehicle management and information service to passengers in the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa. The contract has an estimated annual value of 1,323,740 euros with the possibility of an extension until 2022». Another competition concerns the distribution of water to operational staff of the Port Authority during Operation Paso del Estrecho (OPE), worth 20,433.32 euros per year. The contract is renewable for a second year. The service provider must provide for the annual distribution of 10,000 liters of cold mineral water bottles during the crossing. The ban on Operation Marhaba 2020 was a blow to the economy of Algesiras, especially for the maritime passenger transport sector.
