Closed for several months as part of restrictive measures intended to stem the spread of the new coronavirus, hammams (traditional baths) in Casablanca will finally be authorized to reopen starting from Thursday, March 18. «The public authorities will announce this decision and communicate it to the owners of public hammams starting from Wednesday, March 17», revealed Rabii Ouachi, from the Federation of owners and users of hammams and public baths on Wednesday. Speaking to Le360, Ouachi confirmed that a complete health protocol will be sent to workers in the sector by the local authorities to supervise this reopening. In February, the Minister of State for Human Rights and Relations with Parliament, Mustapha Ramid assured that employees of traditional hammams closed due to the spread of Covid-19 will soon be compensated. The reopening of closed hammams relies heavily on the improvement of the epidemiological situation and the decision of local committees, he added. The government was challenged, a few days earlier, by a parliamentary question, on the closure of hammams and the exclusion of their professionals from any support.
