After Morocco and the European Union managed to reach a common ground for renewing the 2014 fisheries agreement, the Polisario Front reacted, denouncing the decision. Speaking on Sunday, 22nd of July, the Front's «delegate minister for Europe» Mohamed Sidati, said that by «negotiating with Morocco on Western Sahara-related matters, the EU Commission violates the EU Court of Justice». Sidati believes that «the Union's Member States and the Members of its Parliament must know it. Not only they must not ratify this shameful draft agreement, they must call on the Union to discuss the resources-related matters with the only legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, namely the Polisario Front». His reaction comes as Morocco and the European Union concluded on Thursday, 19th of July, negotiations held to renew the 2014 fisheries agreement, a diplomatic source told Yabiladi on Friday. The Moroccan party has managed to overcome the obstacles set by the CJEU's ruling, mentioned by Sidati. «Earlier this week, the EU Foreign Minister adopted a decision that adapts the Morocco-EU Association agreement, which included the fisheries treaty, to the Sahara», argued the same source. For the record, the fisheries agreement signed in 2014, has expired on the 14th of July this year, forcing EU shipowners to leave Morocco's territorial waters. Negotiations to renew the treaty started in April, following a ruling issued by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).
