Central Danone has reduced its raw milk purchases by 30% as it is still facing a viral boycott campaign, reports French-language newspaper Telquel after receiving a letter sent by the company. «In the future, purchasing raw milk from dairy farmers will depend on the sales», wrote Centrale Danone explaining its decision. Speaking to Médias 24 on Tuesday, director general of Central Danone Didier Lamblin stated that «[we] have tried to make a change and overcome the boycott but we had no choice. On Saturday, May 26th, it became urgent for us to cut our purchases». «We do not know what to do with milk anymore», said Didier. For the record, a boycott campaign emerged on social media last month, targeting Centrale Danone, mineral water company Oulmes and the country's leading fuel distributor Afriquia SMDC. The boycott was a way for internet users to protest against consumer prices in the country. The CEO of Centrale Danone said that people sharing fake news on social media will be sued for «defamation», as well as those who stabbed the company's employees and sellers with knives.
