After accusing Morocco of exploiting the natural resources of Western Sahara, the Polisario is denouncing the Kingdom's wind farm projects. In a survey issued on Friday by «Western Sahara Resource Watch», a network of organizations and activists close to the Front, the Separatist movement claims that the «Moroccan wind energy projects in the occupied Sahrawi territories are systematically violating the decisions of the European Court of Justice and the United Nations». Quoted by the Front's «news agency», the organization declared that «with the new planned wind farms in Boujdour, 40.3% of Morocco's green energy production would come from the occupied territories of Western Sahara by 2020». In fact, the Front is referring to «Aftissat» a project expected to take place in south Boujdour and which will help produce electricity using wind power helping 1.5 million inhabitants in the region. The project signed on the 8th of December 2016 is expected to create more than 900 job opportunities. And unlike what has been announced by the Polisario, the project led by Siemens, a German industrial manufacturing company, Enel Green Power, an Italian multinational renewable-energy corporation and Nareva, a Moroccan energy firm is certainly in the favor of Sahrawi people. In other words, it is a developmental program that aims at creating jobs in the region all while preserving nature by making use of renewable energy resources.
