The Moroccan basketball team is qualified to play at the semifinal stage of the AfroBasket 2017, co-organized by Tunisia and Senegal after winning against Egypt (66-62). In a statement to media, Moroccan basketball coach Said Bouzidi said that the Moroccan qualification to the semifinals at the AfroBasket 2017 is «a historical achievement». He insisted that «the players managed their quarterfinal game and succeeded in exploiting the strengths of the Egyptians». Bouzidi said that «the Moroccan players will approach the meeting on Friday (from 18:00) without pressure», stressing that «the essential thing is to believe in our means and play without calculation to reach the final.» Tunisia is also qualified for the semifinals after winning the democratic republic of Congo (81-60). For the record, AfroBasket 2017 is the 29th edition of the AfroBasket, a men's continental championship of Africa. Angola was proposed by FIBA Africa to host the tournament, an offer declined as the country is holding general elections during the same period.
