On Thursday, February 6, Moroccan authorities expelled a Spanish journalist, the director of the daily «El Independiente», known for his proximity to the Polisario Front. The journalist had arrived in Dakhla on a Ryanair flight from Madrid. Upon arrival, airport security informed him that he was not welcome in Morocco and would need to leave the country immediately. According to the journalist, this decision was communicated to him by the security services operating at the airport. Before reboarding the same plane to return to Madrid, the journalist managed to post a video on social media from the tarmac, documenting the incident. This expulsion follows a series of similar actions by Moroccan authorities. Just a week prior, members of the Basque Parliament were barred from entering Laayoune. Additionally, a few days earlier, the same measure was enforced against three Spanish nationals, including another journalist, in Dakhla. In response to these expulsions, members of the far-left Sumar coalition in Spain have submitted a written question to the government. They are urging Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to seek «explanations» from Morocco regarding these recent actions.
