In response to directives from King Mohammed VI, the Ministry of the Interior has launched a comprehensive initiative to address the severe cold wave affecting multiple regions of Morocco. This effort involves collaboration with various ministries, administrations, and stakeholders to mobilize logistical and human resources aimed at supporting citizens during this challenging period. Regional Walis and provincial governors have been instructed to oversee the situation closely, coordinating intervention efforts and implementing proactive and preventive measures. These actions are part of the royal instructions to ease the impact on the population, as detailed in a press release from the Ministry of the Interior. A central steering and monitoring center has been established at the Ministry of the Interior, complemented by provincial monitoring commissions. This is part of the national plan for the 2024-2025 winter season, which includes several enhancements. Notably, the plan now covers 185 additional douars, with a focus on areas recently affected by earthquakes and floods. The initiative targets approximately 872,778 people across 169,134 households, residing in 2,014 douars within 241 territorial communes across 28 prefectures and provinces. In a concerted effort, the Ministry of the Interior, along with its central and provincial services, and related departments, has strengthened intervention capabilities. Measures include continuous situation assessment, ensuring the supply of basic necessities and heating materials, and deploying equipment to maintain road access. Additionally, food aid, blankets, and firewood are being distributed to vulnerable groups in affected areas. The initiative also aims to provide immediate assistance to those in critical situations, maintain road and telephone connectivity, and ensure livestock feed distribution in impacted regions.
