In a strategic move to bolster its presence in the hotel and retail sectors across Africa and the EMEA region, Spain's Martinez Otero announced on Thursday its plans to open its first factory outside its home country. The new facility will commence operations in February near Casablanca, Morocco. The Galicia-based company has seen considerable success in various Spanish cities and views its expansion into Africa as a pivotal step. In a statement, the group highlighted Morocco as the chosen location for its inaugural international factory. Situated in Bensliman, the factory is set to generate over 60 jobs and will support the company's hotel projects throughout the continent. This facility will also serve as a production hub, enhancing the group's international reach by positioning itself closer to Mediterranean, African, and Middle Eastern markets. Spanning 4,500 square meters, the new factory is equipped to handle the complete manufacturing cycle for woodworking and furniture components. It will also have the capability to incorporate auxiliary elements such as metal structures, glass, stone, and upholstery. «This operation is part of the company's investment plan and represents 2.2 million euros for facilities and equipment», stated Alejandro Valladares, the group's chairman, in the announcement. Valladares noted, «Currently, 70 percent of our transactions are derived from international projects, primarily within the European Union, the Middle East, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as Africa». He added that approximately 12 percent of sales over the past four years have originated from projects in Morocco. Martinez Otero is recognized as one of Europe's leading developers, manufacturers, and installers of interior joinery and luxury furniture, catering to sectors such as hotels, retail, and residential. The company boasts a turnover of 80 million euros.
