The Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) has been diligently monitoring the communication meeting held on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco's headquarters. This meeting, convened under royal directives, focused on unveiling the forthcoming reforms to the Family Code. In a communiqué, the Council lauded the proposed reforms for their responsiveness to the community's demands, as detailed in a previously submitted memorandum. Key among these demands are the simplification of marriage documentation processes and the introduction of alternative solutions for inheritance in mixed marriages. The Council also praised the evident commitment to integrating necessary amendments into various legislative texts to ensure the effective implementation of the new Family Code. It highlighted that the revisions aim to rectify deficiencies and imbalances in the current Code's judicial application, align its provisions with Morocco's societal progress and development objectives, and harmonize with legislative advancements, including international conventions ratified by Morocco. Additionally, the Council expressed its appreciation for the imminent fundamental revisions to the Family Code. It noted that these updates are intended to align with the principles and framework set forth in the Royal message to the Prime Minister. The objective is to craft a new version of the Family Code that mirrors contemporary Morocco, addresses societal changes, enhances women's status and rights, safeguards children's rights, and upholds men's dignity. The Council also conveyed its anticipation that the upcoming legislative initiatives to review all family-related texts will be in harmony with the wise royal vision and fulfill the expectations of all stakeholders.
