Days after Panama suspended its recognition of the «Sahrawi Arab Diplomatic Republic (SADR)», Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held a videoconference with his counterpart, Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez, on Wednesday. The Panamanian Foreign Minister reiterated to his Moroccan counterpart his country's decision to cut ties «SADR». A decision that will actively contribute to the search for a definitive solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara, within the parameters established by the latest UN Security Council resolution, he explained. Panama will begin its term as a non-permanent member of the UN's executive body on January 1, 2025. Vasquez expressed, on behalf of the Panamanian government and people, his high esteem for the Royal Message addressed to the President of the Republic, José Raul Mulino. In a joint statement, the two ministers affirmed the desire of Morocco and Panama to increase bilateral trade and develop a dynamic economic partnership based on trade and investment. To this end, the two ministers agreed to promote the exchange of experience in various fields, including green development, energy transition, diversification of the energy matrix, agriculture and food security, fisheries, water resource management, tourism, health, and port infrastructures. The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international terrorist threats and discussed ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism, transnational organized crime, and irregular migration. They agreed to sign a Cooperation Roadmap to provide an operational and concrete framework for cooperation initiatives and activities.
