Morocco's airports have achieved a new milestone, handling a record 21,410,804 passengers by the end of August 2024, a significant 18.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is attributed to a surge in traffic at numerous airports across the country, according to the National Airports Authority (ONDA). Several airports experienced substantial increases, including Rabat-Salé (+42.04%), Dakhla (35.37%), Marrakech (+30.62%), Agadir (+35.3%), Tangier (+20.71%), and Tétouan (+29.15%), as outlined in a press release from ONDA. Domestic air travel also saw a notable rise, reaching 2,230,104 passengers by the end of August 2024, representing a 26.82% improvement compared to the same period in 2023. International air traffic experienced a 17.71% increase to 19,180,700 passengers during the same period. This growth is primarily driven by strong performance in European (+18.71%), African (+17.41%), and Middle and Far East (+11.88%) markets. In addition to passenger traffic, ONDA reported a 15.08% increase in aircraft movements to 158,429 by the end of August 2024. Airfreight volumes also saw a substantial rise, increasing by 22.33% to over 60,376 tonnes.
