Following the Labour Party's landslide victory in the July 4 UK general election, the Polisario leader congratulated Prime Minister Keir Starmer. In his message, Brahim Ghali emphasized that «the Polisario Front is a sister organization to the Labour Party, expressing his hope to continue and deepen the existing relations between the two organizations in their pursuit of a better world where international solidarity, justice, human rights, and the right of peoples to self-determination prevail». Ghali expressed his gratitude for the «unwavering support of hundreds of Labour MPs and Lords for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination». The letter concludes with the hope that the UK, under Keir Starmer's leadership, «will make a practical and effective contribution to international efforts to decolonize Western Sahara, Africa's last colony, to maintain peace, stability, and security in the region». For the record, Rabat and London signed an association agreement in October 2019, including the Sahara. This integration was subsequently validated by the courts, much to the dismay of Polisario's supporters. On December 5, 2022, the British High Court rejected an appeal by the NGO «Western Sahara Campaign UK (WSCUK)» calling for the annulment of the Association Agreement between Morocco and the United Kingdom, including products from the Sahara. Many Labour MPs, then in opposition, denounced this partnership.
