The number of Dutch minors of Moroccan descent registered as crime suspects has declined over the past ten years, according to the Netherlands Youth Institute (NJi). Analyzing police registration data, the Dutch institute revealed on March 13 that in 2012, there were 83 registered suspects per 1,000 Moroccan-Dutch youth. This number fell to 31 per 1,000 young people with a Moroccan migration background in 2022. In 2012, Moroccan-Dutch minors had the highest number of registered suspects, ahead of youth of Antillean-Aruban (82 minors per 1,000) and Surinamese (57 minors per 1,000) descent. By 2022, this trend had shifted, with Moroccan-Dutch youth having the second-highest rate of registered suspects, surpassed only by those of Antillean-Aruban descent.
