Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, urged for responsible water management due to Morocco's ongoing water stress. Speaking at a press briefing after the Government Council meeting, he addressed measures taken in several provinces to prevent water waste. Attributing the water scarcity to low rainfall, Baitas emphasized the government's mobilization and highlighted awareness-raising as a key priority. He pointed to King Mohammed VI's personal attention to this critical issue, citing the sovereign's chairmanship of working sessions on water. Baitas reiterated the government's commitment to tackling water challenges, mentioning significant financial and human resource allocations. He also mentioned the establishment of national-level vigilance committees to ensure responsible and meticulous monitoring. The government, he specified, is prioritizing the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program. This includes constructing dams, optimizing their water usage, desalination of seawater, and interconnecting water basins. He cited the successful Sebou-Bouregreg basin connection, achieved through Moroccan expertise in a rapid timeframe, as an example.
