Morocco has improved its ranking in the Global Firepower Military Strength Index which compares the military might of 138 states. The Kingdom thus gained 3 places this year, ranked 53rd in the world, but remains far behind Algeria, currently ranked 27th. Morocco has gained three places in the Global Firepower Military Strength Index for the year 2021. The Kingdom thus moves from the 56th place it was occupying last year to the 53rd place worldwide in terms of military strength, according to the report which assesses the military might of 138 countries. Morocco also improved its score, which goes down to 0.8244 in 2021 from 0.8763 in 2020. The closer the score is to zero, the stronger the country's army is considered. Based on 50 individual factors to determine a given nation's Power Index score with categories ranging from military might and financials to logistical capability and geography. The score does not depend on the total number of weapons in the country, but rather on their diversity. Logistics flexibility, natural resources and local industry, mission success, strength and efficiency, military strength, manufacturing techniques for combat aircraft, tanks, naval parts and other equipment, as well as financial and human resources are all indicators used to classify the 138 countries of the ranking. Morocco 5th in Africa and 6th in the MENA region For the Kingdom, the report indicates that the country's military budget now stands at USD 6 billion while the number of soldiers is currently 460,000. As for the reservists, they total nearly 150,000 elements, while 14,509,155 people would be considered fit for military service. The report identifies in particular the 249 military aircrafts in Morocco, including 214 combat aircrafts and 64 helicopters, for the air force. It also mentions the 3,033 combat tanks, the 8,000 armored combat vehicles and the 510 self-propelled artillery units for the army, as well as the 121 ships, including six frigates for the navy. Compared to other countries, Morocco comes in second place in the Maghreb, behind Algeria. Ranked this year at the 27th place, the Eastern neighbor also improved its score, which rose to 0.4461 points. For its part, Libya ranks third in the Maghreb and 70th globally, followed by Tunisia (73rd in the world) and Mauritania (126th in the world). Morocco is also fifth in Africa, behind Egypt (13th), Algeria (27th), South Africa (32nd) and Nigeria (35th). As for the MENA region, the Kingdom is ranked 6th, behind Egypt, Saudi Arabia (17th), Israel (20th), Algeria (27th) and the United Arab Emirates (36th). The annual report was topped by the United States of America which comes first, ahead of Russia 2nd, China 3rd and India 4th. Suriname, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Libera and Bhutan occupy the last places in the ranking.
