Festival de casablanca Jil jilala Interview Reporter : Mohammed SLIMANI "Azeus" Azeus : First of all, welcome,As everybody knows, jil jilala is a well known group, but we recently noticed that you were absent for a certain period. Would you like to explain whether this absence was due to direct reasons or other circumstances ? Jil Jilala : It was not an absence, because the group is all the timeworking in different festivals all over Morocco Azeus : How about albums ? Jil jilala : There are some new albums, but we are still waiting to solve the problem of the so called "pirates", because the governement now is focusing on this problem. As you know if you prepare an album, you will find out that it's selled in "Derb Ghallef" with a very low price. And it's very risky for the producer of course. Azeus : So that's why it's better for you to focus on festivals instead of albums ? Jil jilala : Yes, that's right, because you will then develop different knowledges in moroccan culture. And this is one way to be all the time present. Azeus : If we ask you to compare between the old generation and the recent one. As we noticed, generation of 15 years old and above listen to jil jilala, what would you say ? Jil jilala : This is a proof to confirm that the best remains the first. I would like to add also that all our songs are mainly related to soul, society and people. Songs related to our country, nature, and to moroccan folklore. That's why you notice that this generation care a little bit about these groups. According to Moulay Tahar, he always maintains : "as if we were inside a fridge, and they were listening to all kinds of music of 20 years ago, then they found out that this is the style related to our moroccan folklore".What is more important to indicate is that there were some "fathers" who lived the birth period of jil jilala, and they tried to motivate their children to listen to our songs. These are some reasons that make the new generation care about our songs, with a kind of renewal. Azeus : Would you like to inform us whether you will attend some festivals during this summer ? I mean some dates or festivals where we can listen to you. Jil jilala : There will be festival of larache, Saaidia, Rabat which is already confirmed, and there will be a participation in Laayoune. Azeus : A word to say for the young generation ? Jil jilala : I would like to advice them to listen to this kind of music, because it's their own music, with their own style and words, and it's better to care more about it since it's their future.
