Morocco is the best performing country in Africa and in the Middle East and North Africa region, according to the Energy Transition Index for 2020. Compiled by the World Economic Forum, the index evaluates the performance of energy systems in 115 economies. According to the «Fostering Effective Energy Transition report», which summarizes insights from the Energy Transition Index, the Kingdom is one of the few countries in the world that «achieved sustainable gains on its transition readiness by targeting improvements along multiple enablers». Indeed, in the 2020 Energy Transition Index ranking, Morocco came 51st among 115 other economies. It ranked first in Africa, ahead of Namibia (64th) and Ghana (66th). In the Middle East and North Africa region, Morocco also ranks first ahead of Qatar 54th, the United Arab Emirates 63rd, Oman 78th, Jordan 82nd, Algeria 83rd, Egypt 84th, Saudi Arabia 86th and Tunisia 89th. Overall, Morocco scores 56.5% in the Energy Transition Index, which is on a scale from 0 to 100%, the best score. The country scores 61% in system performance and 51% in transition readiness. According to the same source, Morocco's annual energy transition Index score differences between 2015 to 2020 has not changed much. For the record, the index is topped by Sweden 1, Switzerland 2, Finland, Denmark, and Norway.
