In a letter, a group pf pro-Polisario MEPs urged the current High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell to «condemn Morocco's repression of Sahrawi activists». The letter, initiated by Spanish MEP Miguel Urban Crespo (Podemos), asks the European Commission to take sanctions against «human rights violations committed by the Kingdom» in the province. MEPs also demanded the «suspension of the trade and fishing agreement and the financing that Morocco receives in terms of neighborhood and investments». «The European Commission cannot ignore the repressive escalation suffered by Saharawis in the occupied territories. We ask that the agreement on trade and fisheries with Morocco be suspended and that the government takes part in this effort», wrote Miguel Urban on Twitter. MEPs also urged Brussels to «contribute decisively to the celebration of the referendum on self-determination of the Saharawi people».
