A three-story house collapsed, on Friday morning in Derb Moulay Cherif in the Hay Mohammadi district in Casablanca, due to the heavy rains that have hit the city since Tuesday. Local authorities in the Ain Sebaa-Hay Mohammadi arrondissement commune indicated that the house was one of the buildings listed among those nearing collapse. Abandoned by its inhabitants who were evicted, the building would have been occupied «illegally» by third parties, who lived in it. As soon as the incident was reported, local authorities, fire services and the police were mobilized on the spot to secure the neighboring buildings and launch the search operations to rescue potential survivors under ruins. As of now, two people have been rescued and transferred to the Mohammed V regional hospital to receive the necessary care. Search operations are underway to rescue other survivors.
